For Ohio's best underground
dance music, look no further than mix
at Abbasso
Underground Lounge in downtown Cleveland.
Each Saturday, we bring you the latest music
from the worlds of house, progressive, and
breaks. Though the DJs rotate each week,
you can always count on top-quality, cheese-free
beats mixed by the cream of the crop in
a warm, open-minded atmosphere unlike anywhere
else in Cleveland. Come join Cleveland's
friendliest crowd for an amazing experience.
This week,
catch Pittsburgh's Soulglo
crew: Adam Oliveri, Matt Monroe, Linus Stick,
and Mr. Stitch, plus Deviant on opening
duties.
Who is Soulglo?
Armed with an extensive
selection of vinyl, Mr. Stitch
has cultivated a soulful and unique sound
- a blend of progressive, acid, tech, and
deep house mixed passionately with servings
of break beat and techno. Over the last
six months he created his home studio and
has since been tirelessly pursuing his goal
of producing quality electronic music.
It's hard to label Linus Stick's
sound. From deep, dirty, tech influenced
house to dark pounding progressive; everything
is held together nicely with a tribal
theme throughout. Since 1999, he has seen
dance music rise to its peak in popularity
among the Pittsburgh main stream and fall
back down to the underground again. While
it is impossible to predict what the future
holds for this culture, you can be sure
Linus Stick will be in the same place..behind
the decks (and probably drinking Coors
Light!)
Matt Monroe plays an
unholy union of dark, acid infused, tech-funked,
house and breaks. He has been dubbed a
“progressive” DJ; however,
his bag is currently comprised of music
ranging from deep, tech-house, to nu-school
breaks. Matt’s approach to programming
a set is as one who approaches composing
a poem or writing a novel. An experienced
DJ should learn how to captivate a crowd,
subtly introducing themes and soundscapes
through the use of melodies, synths, and
bass lines; Matt brings such experience
to the decks.
Landing his first residency in the summer
of 2002 at the opening of Touch in Pittsburgh,
a local after-hours, Adam Oliveri
developed his blend of progressive-styled
music each week as part of Pittsburgh’s
Hong Kong Groove. He, along with the club,
quickly became synonymous with the dark
and twisted late night sounds. These weekly
sessions opened the door to be a featured
guest at the Abbasso Lounge in Cleveland
as well as Solution, Velvet, Revolve,
and Déjà Vu in Pittsburgh
and other events around the region.
