It's the time of year
to give thanks for all we have and to
help those less fortunate. Come to discoturkey
with a minimum of 5 canned goods or a
$10 check payable to the Greater
Cleveland Foodbank, and we'll give
you a 70-minute CD of Habersham
Live at Abbasso from
his amazing October 8 appearance. (Arrive
early -- supplies are limited.)
We'll also be giving away stacks of free
vinyl to those who contribute the most
to the Food Bank!
In 2004, the Foodbank distributed over
17 million pounds of food to more than
400 hunger programs, which included area
food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters,
and other agencies such as child-care
centers and homes for the elderly. This
was enough food for their member agencies
to serve over 13 million meals to hungry
individuals. The Foodbank provides 37,000
meals EACH DAY to hungry people in our
community. For each dollar donated, the
Foodbank can distribute four meals.
Nearly half of the people that receive
these meals are either children under
the age of 18 or seniors citizens over
the age of 65. A recent Ohio Hunger Task
Force report found one million children
suffering from chronic hunger in Ohio.
Children need healthy food to learn and
grow. The meals provided by the
Cleveland Foodbank and its member agencies
may be the only nutritious food that some
of these hungry children receive.
